Senior Engineer – Design (United Arab Emirates)

STRATEGIC

* Lead civil and structural design activities for HV/MV Substation and Cabling
Projects from project initiation through commissioning.
* Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with DEWA requirements, project
specifications, contract scope, and applicable codes and standards.
* Provide technical leadership and guidance for civil and structural design
optimization to improve project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
* Support project execution teams by ensuring timely availability of approved
engineering deliverables.
* Drive continuous improvement in civil design processes, methodologies, and
engineering standards.
* Participate in technical evaluations and selection of design consultants,
soil investigation agencies, survey contractors, and specialized engineering
service providers.

OPERATIONAL

* Prepare, review, verify, and approve civil and structural engineering
calculations, drawings, reports, and design deliverables for Substation and
Cabling Projects.
* Lead the design development of substation buildings, control rooms, GIS
buildings, cable trenches, transformer foundations, equipment foundations,
retaining structures, roads, drainage systems, boundary walls, and associated
infrastructure.
* Review and validate designs prepared by external civil and structural
consultants to ensure technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance
with project requirements.
* Verify structural integrity and design adequacy of all civil and structural
works.
* Review and approve soil investigation reports, topographical survey reports,
and geotechnical recommendations for project implementation.
* Define engineering design inputs and scope of work for consultants, survey
agencies, and geotechnical contractors.
* Prepare technical specifications, design criteria, and engineering
deliverables required for project execution.
* Coordinate submission and approval of design documents, drawings,
calculations, and reports with Consultants and DEWA.
* Ensure engineering deliverables are submitted as per approved project
schedules.
* Achieve drawing approvals with minimal revisions and ensure timely closure of
consultant comments.
* Support procurement activities through technical review and evaluation of
vendor and consultant proposals.
* Review vendor drawings and technical submittals related to civil and
structural scope.
* Participate in design review meetings and technical discussions with clients,
consultants, suppliers, and project teams.
* Provide engineering support during construction, testing, commissioning, and
project close-out stages.
* Resolve technical issues, design discrepancies, and site engineering
challenges.
* Ensure compliance with applicable standards including DEWA, Dubai
Municipality, UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, BS, ACI, ASTM, and relevant
international standards.
* Maintain engineering records, design registers, and project documentation in
accordance with company procedures.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

* Provide technical supervision and guidance to Design Engineers, Graduate
Engineers, CAD Draftsmen, and BIM personnel.
* Review and monitor design output quality produced by team members.
* Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development.
* Facilitate knowledge sharing and implementation of engineering best
practices.
* Coordinate engineering activities across multidisciplinary teams to ensure
effective project delivery.

PRODUCT/PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

* Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization without
compromising quality or safety.
* Recommend improvements to design methodologies, standards, templates, and
engineering workflows.
* Support implementation of BIM, digital engineering tools, and design
automation initiatives.
* Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement programs.
* Promote standardization of design practices across substation and cabling
projects.
* Enhance engineering efficiency through improved coordination and review
processes.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

* Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
* Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is an added advantage.
* Membership of a recognized engineering body preferred.
* PMP Certification is advantageous.
* Certified Structural Design Professional preferred.
* BIM/Revit Certification is advantageous.
* UAE Society of Engineers Membership preferred.
* 10–15 years of experience in Civil & Structural Design Engineering.
* Minimum 7–10 years of experience in HV/MV Substation Projects, Power
Infrastructure Projects, or Utility Projects.
* Proven experience in DEWA Substation Projects (132/11kV, 400/132kV, and
associated Cabling Works).
* Experience in managing engineering consultants and multidisciplinary
engineering interfaces.
* Strong experience in obtaining approvals from DEWA and Consultants.
* Experience in technical evaluation of consultants, vendors, and
subcontractors.
